Nicorandil (CAS 65141-46-0) is a nicotinamide derivative used to treat chronic stable angina pectoris by acting as a potassium channel opener and nitric oxide donor. It relaxes vascular smooth muscle, increases oxygen supply to the heart, and is typically prescribed when other treatments are unsuitable.
General Properties and Specifications of Nicorandil:
Appearance: White to Almost white powder or crystals. Moisture Sensitive

Melting Point: 92C to 93C literature.
Solubility: Slightly soluble in water. Freely soluble in methanol, ethanol, acetone, and glacial acetic acid.

CHARACTERS

Solubility: Sparingly soluble in water, freely soluble in anhydrous ethanol, practically insoluble in heptane.
IDENTIFICATION
Infrared absorption spectrophotometry.
TESTS
pH: 5.5 to 7.0.
Dissolve 0.25 g in carbon dioxide-free water and dilute to 25& mL with the same solvent.
Related substances: To pass the test by Liquid chromatography.
Sulfates: Maximum 100 ppm.
Water: Maximum 0.5 per cent.
Sulfated ash: Maximum 0.1 per cent, determined on 1.0 g.
Storage: At a temperature of 2C to 8C.
